Resolutions? I Don’t Think So!

Every year, we have resolutions and a lot of us break them. I’ve decided not to have any resolutions this year because they’re really bad for my mental health and they make me want to better myself, rather than accepting myself the way I am. I think it’s okay for people to have resolutions, as long as they don’t push themselves beyond their limit. When you’re like me, resolutions can mean serious emotional torment. I usually fail them anyway.

There’s so much that I could do, but I don’t want to get unhealthy habits by obsessing over things I could improve about myself.

I’ve got a lot of flaws so there are a lot of things I could say about what I want to improve. But I don’t want to. I’ve stopped wanting to better myself. I’ve learned that if others don’t love you for how you are now, then they aren’t worth it. And everything has always been about other people for me. What will they think? That’s such an unhealthy thought process and, due to anxiety, I don’t think I can ever fully eliminate that thought from my mind — but I can start caring about my life again.

Obviously, if I happen to change when doing other things, then that will happen, but I won’t focus my entire being on trying to change myself. I’ve always wanted to change myself and I’m just done with that now.

So here’s to 2019 and another year of being me.

Christmas!

This year, for Christmas, I got my brother an anime t-shirt. He loved it as the anime is his favourite. I got my mum the soundtrack to ‘A Star is Born’ and I also got her a Frida Kahlo Barbie doll. She’s so excited about the doll especially. I got my dad a massager for his back. I got my brother’s girlfriend a mousepad. I also got my cousins’ a few things each (me and my brother bought them together). I’m so happy everyone liked what I got them.

For my roast, I had a Tofurkey, stuffing, cabbage, brussel sprouts, parsnips, roast potatoes, mash, and gravy! It was such an amazing vegan roast and was very filling. My mum had the same as me but without the brussel sprouts (she hates them) and with Yorkshire puddings as she’s not vegan. My dad, being the only meat eater around the table, had some turkey instead of Tofurkey. My brother was at his girlfriend’s for Christmas, for the first time.

For boxing day, we went to my aunt’s and had an amazing buffet! I was so happy with all the vegan food she provided! She always puts in 110%. She even had some vegan cream cheese for crackers.

I got some nice presents myself. I don’t have a particularly big family, especially considering we don’t see most of my mum’s side of the family, but I still got quite a few presents which I’m excited about. My aunt got me a lava lamp! One of my cousins’ got me a unicorn pencil case full of nice things, including some cute miniature notebooks. My parents got me a really nice pen which I am going to use a lot! I got this thing called a Squeezamal which is basically half squishie and half stuffed animal! It’s amazing! I also got a microwavable panda bear which will be great for the winter! My mum is obsessed with crystals at the moment so got me a rose quartz bracelet. Apparently it helps with anxiety and stress. I also got quite a few books I’m excited to read!

I love Christmas because it is a time for family. I get to see my aunt and her family who I don’t see that often. They live quite far away. I also get to watch Christmas films (The Muppet’s Christmas Carol is the best) and play games! It’s such a fun time of year and I’m sad it’s over. I’m looking forward to it for next year.

What do you like most about Christmas?

An A – Z Of What Makes Us Happy

This is a collaboration post with ANewChapter so be sure to check her out. If you don’t, you’ll never get to find out what we said for the other letters of the alphabet! Basically, we took alternate turns saying what makes us happy from each letter of the alphabet. Half of the alphabet will be posted here and half on her blog, so be sure to check her out for N – Z.

Me: A – Animals. I’ve always been a massive animal lover and seeing animals and being around them just makes me happy.

ANewChapter: B – BTS, listening to their music always make me happy and watching videos of their quirky personalities always lifts up my mood.

Me: C – Cats. I know they’re technically an animal, but they deserve their own letter because they’re so awesome! Their purr is soothing and calm, they’re so loving, and they are always in my heart.

ANC: D – Discounts: pretty self-explanatory.

Me: E – the Earth. Everything about nature and the world makes me smile. I love observing nature and learning new things about it. It’s wonderful to watch.

ANC: F – Ferrero Rocher (not sponsored): I love chocolate and my all-time favourite chocolates are Ferrero Rocher.

Me: G – Green. This isn’t my favourite colour but I find it the most calming colour, as it symbolises nature. Whenever I see it, I imagine forests and grass; that’s why it makes me happy.

ANC: H – Honesty: I always appreciate honest people. It means that they’re not scared of being vulnerable and uses that as their strength.

Me: I – Ink. I love to write so ink is a must. To be able to write everything down in a notebook is just wonderful.

ANC: J – Jewellery. I’ve always loved wearing pretty jewellery, I think that it adds a nice finishing touch to any outfit.

Me: K – Korean dramas. I quite enjoy watching these and they’re usually really good.

ANC: L – Languages: I love learning new languages, even if it’s just a few words. Currently, I can speak 3 languages fluently and can vaguely speak another.

Me: M – Music. This is an obvious one, but music always lifts my mood. I don’t listen to it as much as I should but, when I do listen to it, it makes me happy.

That’s it! That’s all of the alphabet you get from me, so you’ll have to check out ANewChapter’s post for the other half of the alphabet!

What makes you happy?

The Recipe Of Me Tag

This tag was created by cakeandpoetry and I was nominated by leo.

The Rules:

  • Tag me as the creator
  • Tag 5 other people (i’m being nice ok). This means you can’t just say ‘i’m tired anyone do this’ (i’m looking at you leo)
  • Be a unicorn today because optimist yo
  • Give a method that you feel is the ‘recipe of you’.

So, how do you get one Lia?

  • Make sure the recipe is vegan, or it wouldn’t be Lia at all.
  • Start off by pouring a load of passion into a small bowl, so that it overflows. She isn’t very balanced.
  • Add a dash of insecurity. Wait, no, not a dash. A bit more. Just a little more… STOP! I SAID STOP! Why aren’t you stopping? Ugh, just pour it all in.
  • Sprinkle over anxiety… Stop. Stop. Again? Really? -_-
  • Add a dollop of social awkwardness and autism. A generous serving.
  • Make sure to mix in some ink.
  • Just a touch of sugar. She isn’t all bad.
  • Get rid of a little of the passion and replace it with determination.
  • Get some tiredness.
  • Finish it off by whisking in cat whiskers.
  • Make sure not to overcook it. Oh no, it’s raw. Leave it be.

And that is how you get one Lia. 🙂

I tag MyMindSpeaksAloud A New Chapter Rose because they all need to post more often.

The Winter Wonderland Tag

Thanks so much to Alicia for nominating me. This is the perfect start to Winter: just hope it snows this year… xD

The Questions

Do you like the cold?

I don’t like the cold when it’s so cold that I’m burning — without there even being snow! Talk about mixed signals. I like the cold when it snows because snow really makes you feel like it’s Christmas. I like the cold because I can put on hats and scarves (particularly my panda hat) and have an excuse to have some tomato soup (which is so hard to find vegan, but I found it, woo). I generally prefer being cold to hot because there are ways to become hotter but, when it’s hold, you literally have to put yourself in a freezer if you want to be colder. xD

Favourite part about Winter?

Getting together with family for Christmas. I hate receiving gifts because it is super awkward but at least I can be with my family that I don’t see too often. I don’t have a massive family and the family I do have live a few hours away so it’s a real pleasure when I can go and see them. Plus, they have this lil cat who is adorable (not as adorable as mine, obviously, but still adorable).

Does it snow where you live?

No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. I live in England, and in the South too, so it is the most unpredictable place when it comes to weather. It hasn’t snowed since 2013 and so it needs to snow this year or I am going to be a very sad panda.

Favourite clothing item in Winter?

Jumpers are typically Winter items but I wear them all year so I won’t count them. I wear my panda hat, which I love a lot.

Your favourite Winter memory

When I was younger, it used to snow almost every year. It’s definitely become warmer as the years have gone on. Some years, the snow would be so thick. I have this memory of my babysitter – Emma – looking out to the snow with us and asking if we wanted to go build a snowman. That’s the only year I’ve ever built a snowman but I can still remember it, even if I was maybe four at the time.

Favourite hot drink?

Does soup count because tomato and basil soup — mhmm. I don’t really drink hot drinks so soup is all you’re getting.

Best Winter book to read curled up in a blanket

I don’t really know, to be honest. I’ll just say the book I’m reading at the moment: Slade House by David Mitchell (author of Cloud Atlas, which I love). It’s an eerily creepy book but, when wrapped in a blanket, you feel safe from the contents of it. I definitely recommend it.

Best Winter movie to watch

A family tradition is to watch A Muppet’s Christmas Carol. We love it so much, and once we even watched it in Swedish! It was an interesting experience.

Do you do any winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating)?

I have never gone skiing or snowboarding, ever. Not once. I know a family friend lost their brother to a skiing accident though, so it’s quite dangerous sometimes. I have been ice-skating but I am not a professional as I don’t even go every year, let alone regularly. I usually hold the side too, because I suck. Dyspraxia is not a trustworthy friend.

Favourite Christmas/Holidays/New Years tradition.

As I’ve said for the movie question, watching A Muppet’s Christmas Carol. Our family is rarely ever together (brother and Dad work and when brother is home he stays in his room) so it is nice to do stuff together when we can. Also, going up to my aunt’s. Last year we stayed home because our Nan would’ve been alone (half-aunt who isn’t very nice was off on holiday with her fella) but then she was ill so didn’t come anyway :o. At New Years, we don’t really go out much for fireworks because they’re ehh; we watch some New Years programme and I have champagne, which I hate, but it is our tradition. xD

I Nominate…

Thanks for reading, hope you liked my answers. Even if you’re not nominated, if you wanna do this, do it. I would’ve nominated more but my followers list was broken today. I usually go through that xD

Pizzaface Restaurant Review

So yesterday I went to Pizzaface, which has recently opened a branch in my town. They currently have only three places (two in Brighton, one in Worthing) but I am so hoping they continue expanding as they are awesome!

Firstly, the layout was great. It’s mostly wooden and I like the design. It is also bigger than you first expect. I didn’t actually go into the toilets myself but my mum remarked that they were wonderful.

The menu had so many options. Whether you’re a meat-eater, vegetarian, vegan, or even want a pizza with fish on, there’s something for you! There were several vegan choices which made me happy.

The waitress was so attentive and thoughtful. She asked if we wanted water first and made sure to let us know that our orders could be switched around as we liked. I just had a vegan Margherita (without having to bring in my own cheese!!) and some vegan garlic bread, which I shared with my mum. She had a vegetarian pizza called The Woodsman, which she added anchovies to.

Her pizza cost £10 and mine cost £7 (but would have been £6 if I wasn’t a vegan), and the garlic bread and drinks were cheap too. It was £23 altogether and we made sure to give a big tip.

The food itself was lovely! My cheese melted great, just like normal cheese, and it tasted amazing. It was massive as well, for £7!? My mum said hers was good too. We had plenty of water if our drinks weren’t enough and the garlic bread was wonderful too.

We were so pleased with the service and the food, which is something so rare, that I just couldn’t help recommending this place to anyone who lives in Sussex. I will definitely be going there again!

We even got two vegan mints to end the evening and a lovely talk about the vegan and non-vegan ice creams offered, which they change around every 4 – 5 weeks, hence no menu for them.

The 2016 Blogger Awards

You can find the rules and how to participate, hosted by Elm, here

Here are my nominations:

Blogger of the year

Elm –

She’s been someone I’ve read since I first started blogging and her stuff has inspired me for months. I aspire to be as great a blogger as her everyday; she’s wonderful.

Blog of the year

TheShamefulSheep –

This blog has great content that I always love to read. Even though I’ve never personally talked to them or given them my regards, I just had to nominate them. 🙂

Kindest Blogger –

MyMindSpeaksAloud –

I know I’m difficult to handle sometimes, but this blogger is always there for me and makes my day, often. She puts up with my nonsense and she’s been a great friend too. Thank you.

Most Approachable Blogger –

Rebekah Gillian –

She really understands me and we don’t know each other very well but I can always talk to her about my own difficulties and she’ll get me! She’s so lovely and very approachable. 🙂

Best New Blogger –

Zoey –

She has been commenting long before she had a blog. I was always really sad that I couldn’t read her stuff! Recently, though, a couple of months back, she made a blog, and it is so good!

Most Positive Blog –

A New Chapter –

Her blog posts usually make me smile and they also make me feel like a better person after having read them!

Most Helpful Blogger –

This is one of the hardest to answer because there are so many helpful people here! However, I will nominate the same person I nominated for kindest blogger because I feel that if you’re kind, you’ll also be helpful. They usually go hand-in-hand.

MyMindSpeaksAloud –

She is always helping me and making me feel better and I feel that any of her friends are very lucky to have her.

Best Looking Blog –

Rose –

She was actually asking me what colours would work and what fonts she should use because she was worried about making it look good. It does look really nice though. 🙂

Most Relatable Blog –

This is so hard but I’ll give it to:

Evie –

Her posts are usually very much my thought process and I’m like woah that’s me right there. xD

Most Creative Blogger

AVeryAwkwardBlog –

Since getting involved in Blogwarts, created by this blogger, I’ve had so much fun! It’s really been great, thanks. 🙂

Funniest Blogger

A lot of the bloggers here are quite serious, which is not an issue at all, but it made finding a blogger for this hard. In the end, I chose a blogger that, although they can be serious, tries to be positive about negative situations.

L –

They just really try to make light of bad things and, sometimes, a normal situation can be turned into something funny. 🙂

The Wildcard –

AspiringThoughts –

I just always really enjoy their posts. 🙂

Birthday Shout-out

So it is one of my closest friend’s (MyMindSpeaksAloud) birthday today and soo I think she deserves a lil shout-out. You should go read her posts because she’s awesome and your life is not complete without reading her stuff, k? Also, she’s 18 now so her posts will be way more mature than they were yesterday, I’m sure. 😀

She hasn’t received many comments/likes for a while and I think it’s made her a bit down so, if you go just read her stuff, maybe even give a comment, that would be the best birthday present for you to give her. ^-^ And her posts are not lacking quality at all, so go do it now! Woo!

Game Review: Life is Strange

*Slight spoiler warning*

So, this game was such a massive trend amongst the Steam community that I just had to give it a shot. And I was not disappointed!

The first thing I just have to talk about is the sound track — it is so beautiful and wow and everything and I just love it! Honestly, it is the best game soundtrack I have possibly ever heard.

The graphics are pretty nice too, but the main thing I need to get at is how brilliant the story is.

This game is split into five episodes. You play the game as Max, a nerdy, aspiring photographer who’s just a little bit nosy. She finds out she has these crazy rewind powers and the ability to literally change time. It’s more than just some superhero story though; some terrible stuff goes on at Blackwell. A missing girl, a suicide attempt, and later, the discovery of the dark room…

It’s a game where your choices do matter. They can change a lot of the story but, ultimately, you discover that there’s one thing that cannot be changed: destiny. It was such an emotional thing too. Like, when you discover who the real psychopath is. That’s pretty darn shocking.

To be honest, I would love for the company who made this game to make so many more games like this because they are so brilliant. This game was brilliant. It was so moving and the story was the best part.

I wish I had rewind powers, to be honest. That’d be cool.
