Christmas!

This year, for Christmas, I got my brother an anime t-shirt. He loved it as the anime is his favourite. I got my mum the soundtrack to ‘A Star is Born’ and I also got her a Frida Kahlo Barbie doll. She’s so excited about the doll especially. I got my dad a massager for his back. I got my brother’s girlfriend a mousepad. I also got my cousins’ a few things each (me and my brother bought them together). I’m so happy everyone liked what I got them.

For my roast, I had a Tofurkey, stuffing, cabbage, brussel sprouts, parsnips, roast potatoes, mash, and gravy! It was such an amazing vegan roast and was very filling. My mum had the same as me but without the brussel sprouts (she hates them) and with Yorkshire puddings as she’s not vegan. My dad, being the only meat eater around the table, had some turkey instead of Tofurkey. My brother was at his girlfriend’s for Christmas, for the first time.

For boxing day, we went to my aunt’s and had an amazing buffet! I was so happy with all the vegan food she provided! She always puts in 110%. She even had some vegan cream cheese for crackers.

I got some nice presents myself. I don’t have a particularly big family, especially considering we don’t see most of my mum’s side of the family, but I still got quite a few presents which I’m excited about. My aunt got me a lava lamp! One of my cousins’ got me a unicorn pencil case full of nice things, including some cute miniature notebooks. My parents got me a really nice pen which I am going to use a lot! I got this thing called a Squeezamal which is basically half squishie and half stuffed animal! It’s amazing! I also got a microwavable panda bear which will be great for the winter! My mum is obsessed with crystals at the moment so got me a rose quartz bracelet. Apparently it helps with anxiety and stress. I also got quite a few books I’m excited to read!

I love Christmas because it is a time for family. I get to see my aunt and her family who I don’t see that often. They live quite far away. I also get to watch Christmas films (The Muppet’s Christmas Carol is the best) and play games! It’s such a fun time of year and I’m sad it’s over. I’m looking forward to it for next year.

What do you like most about Christmas?

My Christmas

This is my Christmas post!! For Christmas, I brought presents for my mum, dad, brother, and brother’s girlfriend. I got my mum a nice dress, my dad some chocolate penguins, an electronic bug, and a bike t-shirt. I got my brother a Mr Poopybutthead figurine, which you’d know if you watch Rick and Morty. I got his girlfriend an animal crossing K.K. Slider plushie, which she seemed to like. My brother was jealous though, perhaps for his birthday…?

I got a new phone for Christmas too, because I haven’t had one for a while. It’s cheap but it seems nice and it has that new phone feel. I also got the best surprise ever: a Pablo cushion! I screamed when I opened it because it’s the best thing I could have gotten. My brother got a Smiler cushion. For my stocking, I also got a magnetic poetry kit, which I’m going to start using for my instagram. Also, my dad got me a book that he brought when he was with me, except he told me it was for my brother.

My roast was lovely, with Tofurkey… mhm. I love roast potatoes and mash too. And sprouts.

On boxing day, I went to my aunt’s. It was really nice. One of my cousins gave me a box of delicious vegan sweets (honestly, best I’ve ever had). The other cousin gave our entire family a David Attenborough collection of DVDs, but also gave me a box of vegan chocolates, and no one else anything extra. I’m obviously her favourite. I got a lovely poetry book and top from my aunt and uncle. But my uncle’s sister got me a VEGAN YULE LOG. Okay, it wasn’t really a normal yule log, it was more dark chocolate in the shape of a yule log, but it was delicious!! I love my family. We also played some games, including Bananagrams, which I love a lot. It’s kinda like Scrabble but quicker and you laugh more.

I also won a competition a few days before Christmas. My favourite author, Patrick Ness, ran a competition where 10 winners would win all these prizes and 100 runners up got some good prizes too. I was one of the 10 winners, and it makes me so happy, because one of the prizes means I get to go see A Monster Calls as a play in the Old Vic, London. I also get some cool other stuff but I think that’s the one I’m most excited for, especially considering the star of it is a tree. I’m just wanting to see a tree walk on stage, really.

Overall, my Christmas was the best time of year, because I got to go see my family. I don’t care about much else, it’s just nice to see them. The rest of my year wasn’t really much to beat either. I also played ‘Who Am I?’ and one of the questions I asked was ‘am I female?’ My cousin answered ‘you are… now’ and I instantly knew I was Doctor Who. Hehe…

The pets got a ton of presents this year too, including a bum for Pablo. Yes, a bum. My cousin got him a cuddly baboon’s bum, which he loves.

The Winter Wonderland Tag

Thanks so much to Alicia for nominating me. This is the perfect start to Winter: just hope it snows this year… xD

The Questions

Do you like the cold?

I don’t like the cold when it’s so cold that I’m burning — without there even being snow! Talk about mixed signals. I like the cold when it snows because snow really makes you feel like it’s Christmas. I like the cold because I can put on hats and scarves (particularly my panda hat) and have an excuse to have some tomato soup (which is so hard to find vegan, but I found it, woo). I generally prefer being cold to hot because there are ways to become hotter but, when it’s hold, you literally have to put yourself in a freezer if you want to be colder. xD

Favourite part about Winter?

Getting together with family for Christmas. I hate receiving gifts because it is super awkward but at least I can be with my family that I don’t see too often. I don’t have a massive family and the family I do have live a few hours away so it’s a real pleasure when I can go and see them. Plus, they have this lil cat who is adorable (not as adorable as mine, obviously, but still adorable).

Does it snow where you live?

No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. I live in England, and in the South too, so it is the most unpredictable place when it comes to weather. It hasn’t snowed since 2013 and so it needs to snow this year or I am going to be a very sad panda.

Favourite clothing item in Winter?

Jumpers are typically Winter items but I wear them all year so I won’t count them. I wear my panda hat, which I love a lot.

Your favourite Winter memory

When I was younger, it used to snow almost every year. It’s definitely become warmer as the years have gone on. Some years, the snow would be so thick. I have this memory of my babysitter – Emma – looking out to the snow with us and asking if we wanted to go build a snowman. That’s the only year I’ve ever built a snowman but I can still remember it, even if I was maybe four at the time.

Favourite hot drink?

Does soup count because tomato and basil soup — mhmm. I don’t really drink hot drinks so soup is all you’re getting.

Best Winter book to read curled up in a blanket

I don’t really know, to be honest. I’ll just say the book I’m reading at the moment: Slade House by David Mitchell (author of Cloud Atlas, which I love). It’s an eerily creepy book but, when wrapped in a blanket, you feel safe from the contents of it. I definitely recommend it.

Best Winter movie to watch

A family tradition is to watch A Muppet’s Christmas Carol. We love it so much, and once we even watched it in Swedish! It was an interesting experience.

Do you do any winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating)?

I have never gone skiing or snowboarding, ever. Not once. I know a family friend lost their brother to a skiing accident though, so it’s quite dangerous sometimes. I have been ice-skating but I am not a professional as I don’t even go every year, let alone regularly. I usually hold the side too, because I suck. Dyspraxia is not a trustworthy friend.

Favourite Christmas/Holidays/New Years tradition.

As I’ve said for the movie question, watching A Muppet’s Christmas Carol. Our family is rarely ever together (brother and Dad work and when brother is home he stays in his room) so it is nice to do stuff together when we can. Also, going up to my aunt’s. Last year we stayed home because our Nan would’ve been alone (half-aunt who isn’t very nice was off on holiday with her fella) but then she was ill so didn’t come anyway :o. At New Years, we don’t really go out much for fireworks because they’re ehh; we watch some New Years programme and I have champagne, which I hate, but it is our tradition. xD
