What is the Mystery Blogger Award?

The award was created by Okoto Enigma who created this award for blogs that hadn’t been discovered as way to give them some recognition!

Mystery Blogger Award” is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.

Three facts about me!

  1. I have a birth mark on my hand that is an oval shape and I used to draw faces on it all the time as a kid, especially pirates.
  2. I believe in aliens. I mean, I think it’s quite a close-minded belief to think we’re the only ones out here. I was actually having a discussion with my mum about it and we talked about the fact they might have already made contact, just not with us. They probably chose dolphins or something because they’re actually smart.
  3. I have a double-jointed thumb. My mum also has it and her mum too.

Questions by MyMindSpeaksAloud!

  1. If you could start a new hobby, what hobby would you start?

Hmm tough one. To be honest, I’ve always thought it would be quite cool to make pottery. I’ve never done it but seeing people do it makes me want to. Maybe one day!

2. If you could describe yourself as an object, what object would you pick and why? (you can use the most obscure reasoning, make it as weird as you like!)
Probably a single raindrop. By myself, I’m barely noticeable, but when I come together with all the other raindrops, we make a puddle and then a river and so on. I feel like everyone is a raindrop; they don’t realise that they can impact the world in a big way because they see themselves as a raindrop, they don’t yet see the puddle they will become

3. What is the primary reason you get up in the morning? (“because I have to work” is not an answer haha)
This is actually a really hard question for someone like me to answer. I’m depressed so every day is a challenge, to get up. I don’t really do much day-to-day, except writing I suppose. I suppose I get up to tell the world that I exist. Even if just one person knows I exist, that means something, because I do exist and they know it.

4. What personality trait do you have that you also see in your friends?
This is a tricky one because I have friends who are very different to each other. I don’t really have a “type” for friends so in order to say that they all possess the same personality trait as me, I would have to look at all of them in their individual way and put them into a group. I don’t want to do that, to be honest, because they all have their own unique traits and I’m happy they’re not the same as me. I’m happy we’re different. I suppose, if I had to answer the question, I would say that their personality trait is uniqueness. They’re unique and that’s what makes them special.

5. What food/meal do you not have very often but when you do have it, it makes you really happy?
VEGAN FISH PIE. I recently asked a local cafe to make me vegan fish pie and they happily obliged and it was delicious. Need it again. Thanks for making me hungry!

Best Post

I don’t know really but I guess What Not To Do To An Autistic Person is an alright post. I like spreading autism awareness and this post does that.

Questions

1. If you were a fruit, what fruit would you be?

2. Do you ever remember your dreams? If so, describe one!

3. What’s your favourite time of day?

4. What existential question do you have for the world?

5. What are you most proud of?

I nominate ANewChapter for this award and whoever else wants to do it. 🙂

Goodbye Christopher Robin

Today I went to see Goodbye Christopher Robin in cinemas, which is about the life of the real Christopher Robin (referred to as Billy by those closest to him). Despite the fact that it was also about the origin of Winnie the Pooh (which I once chose as the wallpaper for my room), it was a very sad story in my opinion. It was about a boy who couldn’t really be himself because he had to always be Christopher Robin, not Billy. He was forced into the limelight and made to take pictures. He once even had to take a picture next to a bear!

After doing some research online, as well, I found that the story was even sadder than what was seen in the films. He grew to loathe his father and, although he visited him occasionally, I don’t think he ever forgave him. His mother refused to see him once he married his first cousin because she was on bad terms with her brother, and kept refusing to until the day she died. He also had a daughter with cerebral palsy and a heart abnormality, which ultimately cost her to die earlier than she should have, at the age of 56. I think this was probably linked to the fact he married a relative, as it is usually bad for the children’s health if you do so.

I had always had suspicions that the Winnie the Pooh characters were metaphors for mental illnesses, but after watching this film, I have come to the conclusion that they were emotions that A.A Milne felt when serving during the war. He obviously suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. Although this was never mentioned, I think it makes sense, and is a clever way to address war in a subtle manner, as he always wanted to write something anti-war. He did eventually do a proper book on it, but before then, Winnie the Pooh was a way to express how he felt.

I really liked the film because it gave insight into the origins of a well-loved story, and I remember it being a big part of my childhood. It was still sad though, and Billy/Christopher Robin did get bullied for it at school, until he took up boxing. I think if his parents had shown more affection to him, maybe they wouldn’t have had such low relations later on in life. I think it is every child’s dream to be the main character in a book, but the fame that comes with it probably isn’t. It’s overwhelming and isolating. This film made that clear.

Thanks for reading!

Awesome Blogger Award

I was nominated by MyMindSpeaksAloud

And now, here are the rules for the award:

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Tag it under #awesomebloggeraward in the Reader.
  • Answer the questions your nominator gave you.
  • Nominate at least five awesome bloggers.
  • Give your nominees ten new questions to answer.
  • Let your nominees know that they’ve been nominated.
  • If you could go back in time and change a memory without it influencing the present, what would you change and why?
I would make it so that I stood up, just once, to the people who weren’t very nice.

  • If you could pick a person/pet to join your family who would you pick?
I would pick MyMindSpeaksAloud because then I’d have someone in my family that actually shares my interests. 😉 Or I’d pick Amy Lee, because who doesn’t want to have the lead singer of an awesome band in your family?

  • What’s your favourite thing to do at night?
Talk to my friends over in different countries. I’d really love to go to Finland or Germany one day. Hehe.

  • What’s your most invaluable yet valuable possession? (something that is physically not worth much, but means a lot to you)
Diego and Smiler. We got them both for free sooo… Diego was given to us by a friend and Smiler moved in to our home. Also, Smiler is old and silly, so that makes his worth about -£10 a week. He literally takes money from us. What is he doing here?
  • What weather do you hate the most? Now write a short creative piece – whatever words come to mind.
I hate it when the sky opens its doors, and the clouds flee, and all that you see is the sky’s light bulb. Don’t get me wrong: a small dosage is nice, but it’s when the earth becomes cracked and the birds start to salivate. It’s when your lips don’t remember what moisture is, and it’s when your eyes could fall asleep just anywhere. It’s when you can’t hide inside because “it’s such a nice day!” but you want to. It’s when you’re forced into its direct path, and you have to endure it. Unlike with rain, or with wind, you can’t shelter from this. You have to go through it, whether you like it or not, until your heart slows, and your skin burns, but it’s Summer, so you better go enjoy it.

  • What’s the most thought-provoking film you’ve watched?
I quite found ‘Before I fall’ thought-provoking. Like, is that what’s going to happen to me when I die? I don’t want to die like that.

  • What do you fear the most in the approaching months?
I guess at the moment my mum’s surgery, but that should be okay, but she usually gets an infection afterwards which worries me so I hope it goes okay.

  • What are you most proud of that you’ve accomplished within the last year?
I completed my A-Levels, even though I was suffering with mental health issues whilst taking them. It was really hard and I had to stop going to college, but I still completed it and got a good grade.

  • If you could only call one person before you died, who would you call and what would you say?
I would call my mum, because she always reassures me that stuff is going to be okay, even if it isn’t going to be.

  • Sit back from the computer for a second. What is your thought process? Write it down however crazy it may seem.
Who is this person and why is she forcing me to sit back from my computer? Who does she think she is? I am not taking this anymore! Oh wait, I just sat back from my computer… This mind-controlling witch! :O

Thanks for reading. I nominate all of my followers, and ask them the following questions:

    1. Define life.
    2. If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why?
    3. Do you believe that there is life outside of Earth?
    4. If you were to be one of three surviving people on the Earth, everyone else was dead, and you could pick who the other two were, but they weren’t allowed to be related to you, who would they be?
    5. What job would you absolutely hate to have?
    6. Which insect has the most fun?
    7. If you were involved in a public robbery, would you be: a) the robber, b) the victim who did exactly as they said, or c) the hero who caught them.
    8. How would you react to one day waking up and discovering that your entire life was a dream?
    9. Have you ever been pranked/played a prank on someone? What happened, if so?
    10. Best-sounding musical instrument?

    Thanks for reading,
    Lia 🙂

Questions to Me

If you were a colour, which colour would be and why?

I think I would be purple; not just because it’s my favourite colour, but because there’s not many things you think of that are purple. There are some things (lavender and violets) but they are in a different shade; what can you think of that is really purple? Because there is hardly anything to compare the colour to, it means that it can be whatever your mind plays up. It is different and set out from the other colours — most of which have boxes that they fit into, but purple doesn’t. It doesn’t fit into a box; it does its own thing, and I like that about it.

Imagine you can time travel, would go to the future or to the past?

That’s a hard one. Going to the past would be fun because I could tell people the future and then they’d be amazed when it happened. I could also win the lottery. But going to the future would also be interesting, as I’d be able to see whether humanity ever redeems itself or whether we destroy ourselves. A bit dark, but it’d be interesting to see. I think I’d rather go to the past as I’m not exploring unknown territory; therefore, I can fit in quite easily, whereas if I go into the future, I might come off a bit weird.

Which song best describes you/your emotions?

Right now, I’m thinking Numb by Linking Park. The lyrics are about pressure from someone and becoming numb to what they are subjected to; and everything is a mistake to this other person. I feel this way a lot, like to someone in my life, everything I do is a mistake. I try to please him but I can’t because his expectations are beyond reality. I’ve gotten used to it so I guess I’m numb now. And, as the lyrics say, I would rather be more like me and less like him. I would rather be who I want to be, but I don’t think I can be.

If you could have any eye colour, what would you choose?

Any eye colour? Although I love having blue eyes, I would quite like to have Elizabeth Taylor-esque eyes; violet. They’re so beautiful yet gentle. I think they’d be really nice to have.

Would you rather read people’s minds or be invisible?

I already am invisible (hahaha) so I think definitely reading people’s minds. I would love to know exactly what someone thought of me, because so many people are polite and not knowing what people think of me triggers my anxiety. To know would be to accept.

If you could have dinner with any TV show/book/film character, who would it be?

I don’t really know. Uhhh… Helena from Orphan Black! Because she loves food so would just wolf it down and then she’d call me her sistra and we’d just be cool friends and she’d kill people for me.

Did a historical event happen on your birthday? (doesn’t have to be the year you were born)

I just looked it up and a lot of sad stuff happened on that day. But I’m only going to be talking about positive stuff! 27 May 1943, the ballpoint pen was patented!! Isn’t that cool? 27 May 1937, The Golden Gate Bridge is opened to pedestrian traffic and more than 200,000 pedestrians walked across it! 27 May 1950, Frank Sinatra makes his TV debut on NBC’s “star-spangled review”. A lot of bad stuff happened too but let’s just think of the good stuff!

My Nominees:

I’m really bad at nominating people, especially when they’ve already been nominated, so apologies if you’ve already been nominated (which you probably have been) but I just need to nominate someone, and new questions!

Antique or modern?
Paintbrush, pen, or microphone? Which would you pick, and why?

Facts about me

  • When I was at first school, I was in a football club (with only one other girl) and professional footballers came and coached us. Back then, I was pretty sporty and loved football. That all changed at middle school.
  • When I was younger, I got two Chinese dwarf hamsters called Nibbles and Angel. As it turns out, the names were totally inappropriate because Nibbles was much more of an angel than Angel!
  • As a baby, my mum would put me in my brother’s old clothing, which was blue. One time, a passer-by said “isn’t he lovely?” and my mum got angry so she dyed all my clothing pink. For years, I had pink clothing and pink walls and pink everything — so much so that I developed an aversion and pink became my least favourite colour. I am neutral about it now but I used to not stand it.
  • I used to be religious. I am now an agnostic because I just want to keep an open mind about everything.
  • I once had a photo taken of an owl on my shoulder and it was one of my best experiences.
  • I once went up to London and met Scott Westerfeld, one of my favourite authors, and he signed my books.
  • I love Shakespeare. I have seen Romeo and Julie in theatres and I have his complete works, as well as a quote book!

The Blogger Recognition Award!

Firstly, a massive thanks to my awesome friends A New Chapter  and My Mind Speaks Aloud for nominating me for this! Go check them out, guys. They’re amazing.

The Rules

1. Write a post to show your award.
2. Acknowledge the blogger that nominated you.
3. Give a brief story about how you got started blogging.
4. Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers.
5. Nominate 15 bloggers for the award.

How I started blogging

I’ve been doing a creative writing course at college and one of the best ways to ensure you do well is to practice and I thought this was the perfect way to do that. As well as practicing, it’s also a way of me getting stuff off my mind and I am so happy I started blogging. I’ve also managed to persuade a few friends to blog along the way too and, honestly, without their support I would not still be blogging. Without your support — all of you who follow me and comment and like my stuff, you are amazing. Thank you.

Advice for New Bloggers

I remember once my friend said “I wrote this post but I don’t know whether I should post it because it might come across wrong to some people.” It is your blog and you should be able to write what you want. Don’t worry about what others will think and, to be honest, most of the time you’re just overthinking it. Her post wasn’t even offensive in the slightest; she just got overly-worried. Just remember that you can’t please everyone; there will be some random dude who will say “ey you offended me by talking about cats how dare you” whatever you do. Don’t worry. Your blog is your blog.

My second piece of advice is to write when you want to write. At first, I wrote every single day, determined that I had to in order to please my followers. Whilst it is nice to please your followers, writing everyday can be a strain for you and your pieces might not even be as good if they’re forced. It’s okay not to write everyday. It’s okay to write when you want to. Your followers won’t mind. 🙂

I am pretty sure everyone in the universe has been nominated so if you’re in another universe wanting to be nominated, go for it! Consider this your nomination 😉

Thank you for reading this,

Lia
