Questions to Me

If you were a colour, which colour would be and why?

I think I would be purple; not just because it’s my favourite colour, but because there’s not many things you think of that are purple. There are some things (lavender and violets) but they are in a different shade; what can you think of that is really purple? Because there is hardly anything to compare the colour to, it means that it can be whatever your mind plays up. It is different and set out from the other colours — most of which have boxes that they fit into, but purple doesn’t. It doesn’t fit into a box; it does its own thing, and I like that about it.

Imagine you can time travel, would go to the future or to the past?

That’s a hard one. Going to the past would be fun because I could tell people the future and then they’d be amazed when it happened. I could also win the lottery. But going to the future would also be interesting, as I’d be able to see whether humanity ever redeems itself or whether we destroy ourselves. A bit dark, but it’d be interesting to see. I think I’d rather go to the past as I’m not exploring unknown territory; therefore, I can fit in quite easily, whereas if I go into the future, I might come off a bit weird.

Which song best describes you/your emotions?

Right now, I’m thinking Numb by Linking Park. The lyrics are about pressure from someone and becoming numb to what they are subjected to; and everything is a mistake to this other person. I feel this way a lot, like to someone in my life, everything I do is a mistake. I try to please him but I can’t because his expectations are beyond reality. I’ve gotten used to it so I guess I’m numb now. And, as the lyrics say, I would rather be more like me and less like him. I would rather be who I want to be, but I don’t think I can be.

If you could have any eye colour, what would you choose?

Any eye colour? Although I love having blue eyes, I would quite like to have Elizabeth Taylor-esque eyes; violet. They’re so beautiful yet gentle. I think they’d be really nice to have.

Would you rather read people’s minds or be invisible?

I already am invisible (hahaha) so I think definitely reading people’s minds. I would love to know exactly what someone thought of me, because so many people are polite and not knowing what people think of me triggers my anxiety. To know would be to accept.

If you could have dinner with any TV show/book/film character, who would it be?

I don’t really know. Uhhh… Helena from Orphan Black! Because she loves food so would just wolf it down and then she’d call me her sistra and we’d just be cool friends and she’d kill people for me.

Did a historical event happen on your birthday? (doesn’t have to be the year you were born)

I just looked it up and a lot of sad stuff happened on that day. But I’m only going to be talking about positive stuff! 27 May 1943, the ballpoint pen was patented!! Isn’t that cool? 27 May 1937, The Golden Gate Bridge is opened to pedestrian traffic and more than 200,000 pedestrians walked across it! 27 May 1950, Frank Sinatra makes his TV debut on NBC’s “star-spangled review”. A lot of bad stuff happened too but let’s just think of the good stuff!

My Nominees:

I’m really bad at nominating people, especially when they’ve already been nominated, so apologies if you’ve already been nominated (which you probably have been) but I just need to nominate someone, and new questions!

The “What do I think about Art” Tag

This tag was started by MyMindSpeaksAloud and she decided to tag me, which is a great honour. Thank you! ❤

Rules:

  • Copy the piece of art given to you by your nominator into the post, as well as these rules
  • Analyse the piece of art given to you and what it means to you (you can be as abstract as you like)
  • Nominate 5 people to analyse another piece of art of your choice
    Art given to me:

I like the fact that you can see the painter for a size comparison. I’m guessing it must be some kind of sculpture because of the way it goes in front of her legs, if it’s not a real person, because it looks so realistic. Like a person just being painted blue. I can’t tell what it is! Help! This is so confusing.

I think that the entire piece being painted in different shades of blue creates a cold and unwelcoming atmosphere, and the man’s facial expression doesn’t help that to subside. He looks almost threatening, or like he’s concentrating on something. He’s definitely not a source of positive energy. The way he puts his arms down is very exact too, as if he’s working something out. He’s sitting in a chair, which is ultimately a source of comfort, but everything else suggests an entirely different feeling, which makes me think that the chair is showing humanity in a man that otherwise looks quite cruel. The darker shades of blue also encompass the feeling of warmth because darker colours in general suggest a warmer and more cosy mood.

The room he’s in is, perhaps, a suggestion of the walls he puts up around himself. They are lighter shades, suggesting he puts up a cold and heartless shell. The chair is his inner self, the self that he can’t quite get out, and he might not be able to get it out until he learns to embrace it, but judging from the look on his face, I’d say that is far, far away.

Thewalkofthoughts – I know you’re already tagged but you said I could tag you again so :p

and basically anyone else who wants to do it!! Please do it. Cool, thanks. 😛

The piece of art I chose for you to analyse:

1978525_1596333637253502_3365766152935828905_o

This is by my mum, Sally Jane Payne. Look her up on Facebook (Sally Jane Payne Art) or instagram (@sallyjanepayneart) because she’s awesome and I love her art. It might be a bit of self-family-promotion but I think it could be analysed very awesomely.

Thank you 🙂

The Sunshine Blogger Award

I have already done this before, but as the person who nominated me for this award, TheWalkOfThoughts, is someone new to blogging, and also a friend of mine, I thought I’d do it again, for them. 😉

Why I Love Me Tag

This award was created by ThoughtfulTash and I was nominated by Em. Thanks for the nomination, though it’s going to be hard to do. 😛

THE RULES (as stated in Tash’s post)

  • Post the award on your blog
  • Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you
  • Leave a link to the original tag creator (ThoughtfulTash) to get a bit more info about WHY this tag has been made!
  • Write 10 things you love about YOURSELF and WHY
  • Nominate at least 5 other bloggers
  • In the comments of the blog post, spread more self-love with compliments to each other! THE MORE LOVE THE BETTER!

Why I love me:

1. I’m sensitive. I mean, this can be both a negative and a good thing, to be honest. I get overly offended by stuff but it also means that I can be more empathetic with people. When I say that I feel bad for you, or hope that something changes for you, I usually mean it — and I’m not saying it out of pity. I’m saying it because I’m empathising with you. I actually have this weird thing that, whenever someone else is in pain, I can kinda feel it too. Sometimes, I’ll even yell “ow!” when someone else gets hurt. xD

2. I care. When I say I care, I’m talking about something different to being sensitive. It’s to do with my veganism. Today, when me and my mum were having a conversation about leather, I actually started crying because so many cars have leather seats and I can’t really escape it. I can’t escape the money scandal either. I’m just a really passionate person and this makes me feel really angry and sad.

3. My family. I mean, they’re pretty awesome, and they’re a part of me, so… 😀 But really, I love them a ton, and they made me the person I am today. Obviously they didn’t want me to go vegan, but when I decided to, they supported me every step of the way. And through all my mental health issues, they’ve been the ones always here, even if they don’t understand all of what I do.

4. My hair. Whilst it is extremely long (and I’m getting it cut very short soon!), it is also very thick (and hard to brush). It means that I always have volume without hairspray, and that I have enough hair to do whatever I want to it. I’ve only dyed it once (without bleach) so it is currently the natural colour of my hair, which is also quite a nice shade, I think. It’s still blonde but more golden than sunny.

5. My pets. They also make up me so, without them, I’d be lost. Today, I’ve had two cats on my bed for the majority of the day. It was nice.

6. My need for perfection. Whilst this too can be seen as a bad thing, and not many people know that I am a bit of a perfectionist, it also helps a lot with my writing. I used to not hand in homework because it wasn’t good enough, at one stage, so it has been very challenging, but it does help with improving my writing skills.

7. My creativity! The reason I write is because I have a body full of creative energy that needs to leak out. My mum uses art; I use writing. It can be hard to want to do a career that isn’t solid — but my parents support my dreams, and they know that normal jobs are a struggle for me.

8. My super-hearing. I have quite a lot of heightened senses, actually (I can’t be in same area as my mum when she drinks tea, I have to wear sunglasses even in Winter, etc) but my heightened sense of hearing is the only one which can help me with some things. Whilst it can disturb my sleep too, I can also hear secret conversations, like a ninja. Although, most of the time, they’ll never know I heard, and I’ll just carry around as usual… on the floor above them.

9. My sense of style. Because it’s my own style, and I’m not conforming to what other people tell me to wear. It’s comfortable and I think it looks nice too (black and white theme generally) and it isn’t forced upon me. That’s why I like it.

 10. My room. It’s so big!

I realise not all of these might have been explicitly about me but I tried. Also, I try not to say too many nice things about myself in fear that I’ll be thought arrogant because that is definitely one thing I am not! haha…

I nominate A New Chapter mainly as I feel this is her thing (all her blog posts are so positive — minus the latest one, but let’s ignore that one…) but I also nominate everyone who needs a little motivation and self-love. ❤

My Reading Preferences | ‘Would You Rather’ Book Tag

Firstly, thank you Rebekah for tagging me for this. 😀

  1. Read only series or stand alone? I find that, when I get really into a book, and then suddenly it’s over, I’d love there to be a sequel (though sometimes it ruins the whole thing!) but I do mostly read stand-alone books. I love series too though, like Uglies and Chaos Walking.
  2. Read only female or male authors?
My favourite authors are actually males, though I do like a lot of books written by females. In Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, he was a male writing but he got inside the mind of a female, and I think it worked wonderful. I don’t have a specific preference of gender, though my favourite authors just happen to be male.
  3. Shop at Barnes and Noble/Waterstones or Amazon?
I actually edited this question because, over here in the UK, our Barnes and Noble is Waterstones. So, I just added that on. Whilst I love the smell of books, and will quite happily go to Waterstones if I’m already out, sometimes Amazon is just so much more convenient. It’s just ready whenever you are. I do get books from Waterstones every once in a while, and that’s more instant, which is nice.
  4. All books become movies or TV shows?
I don’t really have a preference! TV shows are good sometimes because they last longer, I suppose? By that, I mean, you get the anticipation of each week’s episode. On the other hand, movies are lovely to just get some popcorn out and chill in front of.
  5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books a week?
It used to be a book or two a week but now I’ve kinda not been reading for a while. I don’t know why, to be honest. Just haven’t been in a reading mood. Hopefully I will read more again soon.
  6. Be a professional reviewer or author?
Author, definitely. That’s been my dream since I was about eight. I mean, I’ve been writing my whole life, but I didn’t consider my career path until I was eight. At first, I thought it would be super easy. Just, you know, go publish a book. I know it’s a lot harder than that now. I’m not eight anymore. I’m not the best reviewer in the world; my reviews tend to be brief. I’d just love to be an author.
  7. Only read your top 20 favourite books over and over, or always read new ones? Whilst reading your favourite books again is a nice reminder, I think reading new books is a really nice thing to do and it definitely can help you find new authors or genres that you like.
  8. Be a librarian or a bookseller?
Maybe being a librarian? I think there are more books in libraries that can be about really random things and sometimes I just go to a library, pick out a random book, and just read it there and then. I mean, bookshops are lovely, but they aren’t as random with the books they have, in my experience. I don’t know. Random is cool. Also, at libraries, you’re allowed to read there, whereas you have to actually buy the books at bookstores.
  9. Only read your favourite genre or every genre but your favourite? Well, I don’t have a favourite genre. I just like any book that is good! I read all varieties of books, to be honest. I don’t even just stick with YA; I read adult books a lot too! My mum usually has some good suggestions for me. So, I suppose, then, I would go with every genre but my favourite, because I don’t have a favourite genre! Science-fiction is awesome, but so is realism, and they’re kinda at opposite ends of the scale.
  10. Only read physical books or e-books?
Physical books. I have tried reading e-books in the past, and I just can’t get into them! Plus, the smell of physical books is amazing.
I tag: My Mind Speaks Aloud and A New Chapter — and anyone else who wants to join in, feel free 😛

Thanks again to Rebekah, and thanks to everyone who’s read this! 🙂

The Recipe Of Me Tag

This tag was created by cakeandpoetry and I was nominated by leo.

The Rules:

  • Tag me as the creator
  • Tag 5 other people (i’m being nice ok). This means you can’t just say ‘i’m tired anyone do this’ (i’m looking at you leo)
  • Be a unicorn today because optimist yo
  • Give a method that you feel is the ‘recipe of you’.

So, how do you get one Lia?

  • Make sure the recipe is vegan, or it wouldn’t be Lia at all.
  • Start off by pouring a load of passion into a small bowl, so that it overflows. She isn’t very balanced.
  • Add a dash of insecurity. Wait, no, not a dash. A bit more. Just a little more… STOP! I SAID STOP! Why aren’t you stopping? Ugh, just pour it all in.
  • Sprinkle over anxiety… Stop. Stop. Again? Really? -_-
  • Add a dollop of social awkwardness and autism. A generous serving.
  • Make sure to mix in some ink.
  • Just a touch of sugar. She isn’t all bad.
  • Get rid of a little of the passion and replace it with determination.
  • Get some tiredness.
  • Finish it off by whisking in cat whiskers.
  • Make sure not to overcook it. Oh no, it’s raw. Leave it be.

And that is how you get one Lia. 🙂

I tag MyMindSpeaksAloud A New Chapter Rose because they all need to post more often.

The Winter Wonderland Tag

Thanks so much to Alicia for nominating me. This is the perfect start to Winter: just hope it snows this year… xD

The Questions

Do you like the cold?

I don’t like the cold when it’s so cold that I’m burning — without there even being snow! Talk about mixed signals. I like the cold when it snows because snow really makes you feel like it’s Christmas. I like the cold because I can put on hats and scarves (particularly my panda hat) and have an excuse to have some tomato soup (which is so hard to find vegan, but I found it, woo). I generally prefer being cold to hot because there are ways to become hotter but, when it’s hold, you literally have to put yourself in a freezer if you want to be colder. xD

Favourite part about Winter?

Getting together with family for Christmas. I hate receiving gifts because it is super awkward but at least I can be with my family that I don’t see too often. I don’t have a massive family and the family I do have live a few hours away so it’s a real pleasure when I can go and see them. Plus, they have this lil cat who is adorable (not as adorable as mine, obviously, but still adorable).

Does it snow where you live?

No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. I live in England, and in the South too, so it is the most unpredictable place when it comes to weather. It hasn’t snowed since 2013 and so it needs to snow this year or I am going to be a very sad panda.

Favourite clothing item in Winter?

Jumpers are typically Winter items but I wear them all year so I won’t count them. I wear my panda hat, which I love a lot.

Your favourite Winter memory

When I was younger, it used to snow almost every year. It’s definitely become warmer as the years have gone on. Some years, the snow would be so thick. I have this memory of my babysitter – Emma – looking out to the snow with us and asking if we wanted to go build a snowman. That’s the only year I’ve ever built a snowman but I can still remember it, even if I was maybe four at the time.

Favourite hot drink?

Does soup count because tomato and basil soup — mhmm. I don’t really drink hot drinks so soup is all you’re getting.

Best Winter book to read curled up in a blanket

I don’t really know, to be honest. I’ll just say the book I’m reading at the moment: Slade House by David Mitchell (author of Cloud Atlas, which I love). It’s an eerily creepy book but, when wrapped in a blanket, you feel safe from the contents of it. I definitely recommend it.

Best Winter movie to watch

A family tradition is to watch A Muppet’s Christmas Carol. We love it so much, and once we even watched it in Swedish! It was an interesting experience.

Do you do any winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating)?

I have never gone skiing or snowboarding, ever. Not once. I know a family friend lost their brother to a skiing accident though, so it’s quite dangerous sometimes. I have been ice-skating but I am not a professional as I don’t even go every year, let alone regularly. I usually hold the side too, because I suck. Dyspraxia is not a trustworthy friend.

Favourite Christmas/Holidays/New Years tradition.

As I’ve said for the movie question, watching A Muppet’s Christmas Carol. Our family is rarely ever together (brother and Dad work and when brother is home he stays in his room) so it is nice to do stuff together when we can. Also, going up to my aunt’s. Last year we stayed home because our Nan would’ve been alone (half-aunt who isn’t very nice was off on holiday with her fella) but then she was ill so didn’t come anyway :o. At New Years, we don’t really go out much for fireworks because they’re ehh; we watch some New Years programme and I have champagne, which I hate, but it is our tradition. xD

I Nominate…

Alice Rose A New Chapter Leo

Thanks for reading, hope you liked my answers. Even if you’re not nominated, if you wanna do this, do it. I would’ve nominated more but my followers list was broken today. I usually go through that xD

Versatile Blogger Award

versatile1

I haven’t done a tag for ages so I was really excited to do this. Thanks so much to Lia (P.S: awesome name!) for nominating me. 😀

Rules

  • Show the award on your blog
  • Thank the person that has nominated you
  • Share 7 different facts about yourself
  • Nominate 15 blogs of your choice
  • Link your nominees and let them know of your nomination

Facts about me

  • When I was at first school, I was in a football club (with only one other girl) and professional footballers came and coached us. Back then, I was pretty sporty and loved football. That all changed at middle school.
  • When I was younger, I got two Chinese dwarf hamsters called Nibbles and Angel. As it turns out, the names were totally inappropriate because Nibbles was much more of an angel than Angel!
  • As a baby, my mum would put me in my brother’s old clothing, which was blue. One time, a passer-by said “isn’t he lovely?” and my mum got angry so she dyed all my clothing pink. For years, I had pink clothing and pink walls and pink everything — so much so that I developed an aversion and pink became my least favourite colour. I am neutral about it now but I used to not stand it.
  • I used to be religious. I am now an agnostic because I just want to keep an open mind about everything.
  • I once had a photo taken of an owl on my shoulder and it was one of my best experiences.
  • I once went up to London and met Scott Westerfeld, one of my favourite authors, and he signed my books.
  • I love Shakespeare. I have seen Romeo and Julie in theatres and I have his complete works, as well as a quote book!

I Nominate…

No I do not have 15 nominees! I am not made of nominees xD

The 2016 Blogger Awards

You can find the rules and how to participate, hosted by Elm, here

Here are my nominations:

Blogger of the year

Elm –

She’s been someone I’ve read since I first started blogging and her stuff has inspired me for months. I aspire to be as great a blogger as her everyday; she’s wonderful.

Blog of the year

TheShamefulSheep –

This blog has great content that I always love to read. Even though I’ve never personally talked to them or given them my regards, I just had to nominate them. 🙂

Kindest Blogger –

MyMindSpeaksAloud –

I know I’m difficult to handle sometimes, but this blogger is always there for me and makes my day, often. She puts up with my nonsense and she’s been a great friend too. Thank you.

Most Approachable Blogger –

Rebekah Gillian –

She really understands me and we don’t know each other very well but I can always talk to her about my own difficulties and she’ll get me! She’s so lovely and very approachable. 🙂

Best New Blogger –

Zoey –

She has been commenting long before she had a blog. I was always really sad that I couldn’t read her stuff! Recently, though, a couple of months back, she made a blog, and it is so good!

Most Positive Blog –

A New Chapter –

Her blog posts usually make me smile and they also make me feel like a better person after having read them!

Most Helpful Blogger –

This is one of the hardest to answer because there are so many helpful people here! However, I will nominate the same person I nominated for kindest blogger because I feel that if you’re kind, you’ll also be helpful. They usually go hand-in-hand.

MyMindSpeaksAloud –

She is always helping me and making me feel better and I feel that any of her friends are very lucky to have her.

Best Looking Blog –

Rose –

She was actually asking me what colours would work and what fonts she should use because she was worried about making it look good. It does look really nice though. 🙂

Most Relatable Blog –

This is so hard but I’ll give it to:

Evie –

Her posts are usually very much my thought process and I’m like woah that’s me right there. xD

Most Creative Blogger

AVeryAwkwardBlog –

Since getting involved in Blogwarts, created by this blogger, I’ve had so much fun! It’s really been great, thanks. 🙂

Funniest Blogger

A lot of the bloggers here are quite serious, which is not an issue at all, but it made finding a blogger for this hard. In the end, I chose a blogger that, although they can be serious, tries to be positive about negative situations.

L –

They just really try to make light of bad things and, sometimes, a normal situation can be turned into something funny. 🙂

The Wildcard –

AspiringThoughts –

I just always really enjoy their posts. 🙂

The Blogger’s Story Award

Before I start, I need to give an explanation for my recent absence. As some of you might have noticed, I haven’t been on recently, and that’s because my laptop broke. It is fixed now though and so I can do posts again! Woo!

Firstly, I need to thank my awesome friend A New Chapter for nominating me! She is awesome and you need to go follow her, k?

the-bloggers-story-award.jpg

Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Showcase the award photo
  • Answer the questions
  • Nominate 3+ bloggers

What’s your blog name and why did you call it that?

My blog name is Bamboo Chewer. Originally, it was Chewing Bamboo, but in an irrational moment of anxiety, I deleted that blog! [The next day I decided I’d made a mistake and then oops I couldn’t get it back so I had to create a new one. xD] I called it that because my pen name that I used on another site, though I have recently deactivated that, has used the idea of being a “panda”, so I like the idea of pandas in general. As well as this, being a vegan, I have a similar vegetation to pandas (in regards to not eating meat etc — I don’t eat bamboo aha ;P) and I also love to nap! I just love pandas, to be honest.

How long have you been blogging?

Oh a while now! I started in February but, as you know, I did delete my first blog — so this blog has been open for less time. So that’s about half a year! Wow!

How many followers do you have?

I currently have 85 followers! Thank you guys ❤

Who was your first follower?

On this blog, It was My Mind Speaks Aloud, and she is also one of my best friends. Please check her out! She’s amazing and I love her and I’m probably going to steal her cats sometime soon. 😉

What got you into blogging?

Me and my friend Thirteen Purple Roses decided to start blogging together as practice/revision for our creative writing a-level. It’s not something you can really learn so we thought that starting a blog was the perfect way to practice for the exams! It has also become such a passion for me and I love blogging! 🙂

What is your favourite part of blogging?

The community! Everyone is so lovely and welcoming to new bloggers. I always worried about getting followers and comments but I didn’t need to worry because everyone has been so lovely! 🙂 Also, I feel like I can really say whatever I want without the blogging community judging me, which is just awesome! 😀

If you could change one thing about WordPress, what would it be?

A private messaging feature. I have met a lot of lovely bloggers on here who I can’t really talk to outside of WordPress, but unfortunately, there is no way to get to know them better! I need a private messaging feature! Haha 🙂

Why do you continue to blog?

All of my friends asking me when my next post is due (and some, who don’t have blogs, sending me awesome messages in response to my blogs), all you lot with your awesome comments, the fact that it’s fun! Just a lot of reasons really 🙂

Nominations:

OK OK, so I know she has already been nominated but I do this thing of double-nominating her so she’ll do it sooner: My Mind Speaks Aloud 😉

I also nominate Thirteen Purple Roses

My third nomination is, um, you… you there! You, you, you. xD

Thank you for reading this,

Lia
